Become a published author. Cultivate your voice and learn the tools of the craft.
Roots to Sky is an 8-week creative writing workshop for high school students designed to support the development of each participant’s unique voice. Through exposure to the work of established writers and guided exercises, students generate original work in a focused, collaborative environment.
Each session includes free writing, structured prompts, and the opportunity to share and engage with one another’s work. Workshops meet twice a week over six weeks at Pop-Hop Books Co-Op in Highland Park, led by Jesse Bliss and guest artists.
Participants are published in a collective book, receive a stipend, and take part in free writing classes led by working professionals. The series culminates in a book release celebration.
Snacks, notebooks, and a Roots and Wings Project library are provided.
Ages 14–18
Supported by the TahDah Foundation and the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture in partnership with Community Partners.
This workshop is also offered year-round, with programming that can be tailored to meet the specific logistical and scheduling needs of schools and organizations.
